Tiburon

Picturesque Waterfront

The picturesque Southern Marin town of Tiburon, translated as " the shark", is located just 16 miles north of San Francisco, accessible by car from Highway 101 and Highway 131 (Tiburon Boulevard) as well as by ferry service. With its historic waterfront features of restaurants, cafes, galleries and boutiques, Tiburon is incredibly desired for its location, highly ranked schools, access to a range of outdoor activities, and world-class views. The neighborhoods and areas include Belvedere, Italian for “beautiful view,” the Western Tiburon Peninsula, and the Eastern Tiburon Peninsula..

The smaller city of Belvedere, which was formerly a separate island, occupies the south-west part of the peninsula and is contiguous with Tiburon. Tiburon is bordered by Corte Madera to the north and Mill Valley to the west, but is otherwise mostly surrounded by the Bay. Residents of Tiburon love their Bay, Golden Gate Bridge and city views, which can all be taken in while hiking around Ring Mountain, strolling along Blackie’s Pasture, or biking up and down Paradise Drive. Tiburon is also home to Paradise Yacht Cay and Tiburon Yacht Club. Downtown Tiburon hosts ample shops and restaurants, including local favorite, Sam’s Anchor Café; as well as the ferry dock with regular service to San Francisco.Western Tiburon Peninsula offers views of the city and Golden Gate Bridge from its situated hillside location. This side is closer to the ferry station and Old Town area , with a mix of spacious hillside homes and modest sized houses in the flat family-friendly Belveron and Bel Aire sub-divisions. The Reed Lands area is close to the highway and is a mixture of flatland and some hilly areas, often with fantastic southern exposures and city view.

Eastern Tiburon Peninsula is a bit out of the way and not as densely populated as the other areas of Tiburon, this area is accessible via the windy bay front Trestle Glen and Paradise Drive. Some spacious hillside homes and the family and yachting friendly suburban enclave of Paradise Cay.

Reed Union School District: Tiburon’s public schools are a special point of pride for its residents, being nationally recognized as “California Distinguished Schools” by the state Department of Education. The district has three schools, all located in Tiburon: Reed Elementary (grades K-2); Bel Aire Elementary (grades 3–5); and Del Mar Middle School (grades 6–8). St. Hilary School is a Catholic primary school (grades K-8), is also located in Tiburon and is recognized as "Apple Distinguished School." Serving students from Belvedere and part of Corte Madera, along with Tiburon, all of Tiburon's public schools have gone or are undergoing substantial renovation and expansion, with work on all three completed by 2006.
